The music and lights of Broadway will shine brightly on the Redwood Empire Ice Arena--Snoopy’s Home Ice--the weekend of May 16-18, 2008 as The Santa Rosa Figure Skating Club presents Snoopy’s Broadway Nights, the club’s bi-annual spring figure skating show which originated in 1963 at the former ice arena on Summerfield Lane. From Annie Get Your Gun to Hairspray, the show is a tribute to the Broadway of yesterday and today and audiences will recognize favorites from New York’s “Great White Way.”

A Santa Rosa tradition for over four decades, this year’s show features eighty local skaters ranging in age from four to eighty-two as well as everyone’s favorite figure skating beagle, Snoopy. “We are excited to bring the spring show back to our friends in Santa Rosa,” notes co-director Lisa Navarro. “And this year’s program promises something for everyone,” In addition to the Club’s four legged star, several national and internationally recognized skaters will make special appearances on behalf of their home club.

Returning to Santa Rosa will be 2008 U.S. Ice Dancing Skating Bronze Medalist and El Molino High School graduate Kimberly Navarro with her partner, Philadelphian Brent Bommentre. Fresh off a successful performance at the their first World Figure Skating Championships in Goteburg, Sweden, Kim and Brent will perform in the style that has brought the pair international acclaim. According Susie Wynn of ABC Sports; “With a true love for skating and sincere appreciation for their supporters and fans, these U.S. National medalists are going places fast – and for all the right reasons.”

Also performing in this year’s show will be Beata Handra who represented the U.S. in ice dance (with Charles Sinek) at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City and many local notables including; 2008 U.S. Adult Masters Ladies Champion, Stephanie Ewing and 2008 US Adult Gold Ladies Champion, Ninotchka Aschow, nationally ranked men’s star Jordan Wilson, Pacific Coast medalist Michael Helgren, everyone’s favorite ice skating clown Dick Dova and of course, Snoopy himself.
